My latest hat and scarf combo

This is my latest patten. This one is for a 1 - 4 year old. I made it using Michael's Loops and Threads, which was on sale last week. Only 2.99 per skein. Normally, they are $4.99 a skein. I went ahead and bought a grey, deep purple and a lavender skein. My next set will be in this pattern in either the purple or lavender and for an older little girl. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

September was GOOD!

We really outdid ourselves this month! You ladies came in with full force. Let's get straight to the numbers because they speak for themselves...

5 Scarves
7 Hats
3 Afghans

SEPTEMBER TOTAL: 15 more pieces

OUR GRAND TOTAL: 62 pieces of cold weather items. Here's our current breakdown:

1 Sweater
19 Hats
13 Afghans
28 Scarves
1 Earmuffs

It was very pleasurable for me to crochet with the cooler weather. There was even a day or two so far this month that I had to put hats on my children before going outside. I remember thinking, "Imagine if I didn't have a hat to put on my kiddos right now..." Unfortunately, there are mothers in Hampton Roads in that situation. I thank the Lord for each one of you. That has really driven me to buy tons of yarn (on sale :) this month and try my hardest to crochet some more items.
It's our last month to make a few more items; lets keep those hooks and needles going!

Project One: For Kids

Introducing our first offical project!

Mission: To make warm weather items to cloth as many kids at the For Kids Program as possible.
Ages we are crafting for: Range from Newborns -17 years old. (The majority are age 10 and under)
Deadline: November 1, 2011
For Kids Website: http://www.homesforkids.org/Main/nivo-slider2.5.1/nivo-slider/index/index.html

Who is For Kids? For Kids is a program out of Norfolk, VA that tries to combat homelessness and poverty in families with children. They help at least 80 children and their families with shelter daily and aid approximately 200 non-residents a month in other ways. Most of their residents come with hardly and clothes and belongings.

In the winter, many of these children are going to need warm clothing. Including non-residents, we are talking about 280 children who will need warm clothes. That's where you come in! Let's get to work and fill that need this winter.

Patterns
There is a wealth of patterns that can be viewed for free at http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/winter.html I contacted Beverly personally and she gave me the green light to post her link on our blog since we are crocheting for charity. Patterns have a letter next to them meaning (C) Crochet, (K) Knit, (S) Sew. You are also more than welcome to use your own patterns for your projects.

Check-in Once A MonthTo make things interesting, I am asking everyone to send me a tally of your completed project on the 29th of every month. I'll post our "Total Count" the first week of every month to keep us motivated. A sample email can be something like "I  made 2 hats and one scarf this month." Then, I'll post on our blog something like:

SAMPLE
For Kids Project Tally (5/1/2011)

6   Blankets
1   Hat
2   Scarves
4   Mittens

13 Total Articles Made So Far

If you want to share your work, you can also send a picture anytime for us to post on the blog or on facebook. Let us know if we can post it with your first name or if you just want it posted anonymously.

Please email me if you have any questions at sewhookedonlove@yahoo.com. I also want to thank Elizabeth for making us a Facebook page.

Warm up those fingers

Hello ladies,

Get your fingers warmed up! I'm in the process of narrowing down our first project. When forming Sew Hooked on Love (SHOL), I thought it would be super easy to find projects. I was right. What I didn't count on was the overwhelming need for the types of items we are about to make. Faced with such a need, I am prayerfully considering the first project SHOL will tackle. Stay tuned to our blog.
