The grand total is 35 sets!
Thank you for helping the Lighthouse Center provide 35 people a little extra warmth this winter. May the Lord repay you many times over for the time, love and money you have each vested into each handmade piece.
I also want to thank three new contributors for this year: Susan from NY, Kathy from PA and my own dear mom. I'm also extending a warm welcome to a new member, Donna from GA, who just found us online and is excited about joining hands with us on our next project.
It's a wrap for our 2012 project. You'll hear from me next year around Easter. Enjoy your holidays ladies and feel free to give those hooks and needles a rest! ~ Sandra

September came and went leaving behind brisk temps and gray skies. I can easily see our handiwork being put to use very soon team. Here's the breakdown...
September 2012 Tally
Total Completed sets: 23
Partial sets: 4
Woohoo! We made a big jump in September. Thank you all! May the Lord bless each one of you for worshipping Him and blessing others with your hands and time in such a unique fashion. Let's give it one last push before wrapping up our 2012 season. There are only 25 days remaining! ~Sandra

Susan's Handiwork
This is a hat that our SHOL member Susan has just wrapped up. She used the Eating Out Loud blog pattern that I posted on July 18th and some Bernat yarn. A big "thank you" to Susan for her donation.
SHOL August 2012 Tally
Summer went out with a bang! We doubled our number of sets this month. Our grand total is now:
Total completed sets: 13
Partial sets: 6
We are still far from the Lighthouse Center's need for 60 sets but it's awesome that we are gaining momentum. I was able to do a bit more by using chunky yarn and a bigger hook. As I complete each piece, I know that one more person will be warmer this winter. Our Nov. 1 deadline is quickly approaching. As the temperature starts dipping, remember to keep those hooks and needles going!

SHOL July 2012 Tally
July 2012 Tally
Total Completed sets: 6
Partial sets: 8
Our goal is 60 sets so let's try to pick things up as much as we can team. My personal strategy is now to find a quicker pattern using chunkier yarn so I can make my sets quicker. There's only two more months left so let's give it a good try and keep a few more people warm come winter. Thanks again for all your efforts ladies. -Sandra

My favorite free online hat pattern
I just had to share! It has the feel of knit but its really all single crochets and chain stitches. It's almost a one size fits all.

June 2012 Photo Gallery
This is my darling son modeling the set I finished this month. It's Caron Simply Soft in olive green using the timeless scarf pattern I posted last month. I am addicted to this yarn. It is ridiculously soft. Have two more skeins of this yarn to complete and then I'm going...to...try to...pull... away! Want to try some new brands. :)

June Tally 2012
This summer is sizzling and I've been finding myself trying to enjoy the season while still taking care of myself. I am expecting a baby in October. Crocheting is the perfect way for me to relax when I need a break. Here's our grand total so far:
4 Complete Sets
2 Partial Sets (one hat and one scarf)
This year we are definitely crawling up slowly to our goal. I'm not sure of we will make the 60 sets the Lighthouse Center requested, but I will surely try. I encourage everyone to try as well and we still might be able to warm up the adults that will need our help come winter.
Please feel free to share any online patterns or photos of your work with the group. Also, please contact me with any problems or concerns.
Until next time, keep those hooks and needle going (despite the scorching heat of summer :)

Timeless Scarf Pattern
This is the scarf pattern I'm using on my current project with olive green Caron yarn. I'm even thinking of making this one for myself.

I'm expecting my baby in October so I know I'm going to need a new coat this winter. I'll have to wait to purchase that before making my scarf. Enjoy the pattern!

Project 2012 Unveiled: The Lighthouse Center
Our 2012 Project is officially kicking off as of now! The Lighthouse Center in Virginia Beach needs 60 cold weather sets to give out during Winter 2012. The majority of their population is male so let's keep most sets gender neutral. For our purposes, a set consists of a hat and scarf (mittens, gloves, earmuffs, etc. would be nice but are not mandatory). Please go to to find out more about The Lighthouse Center and get a feel for the community that you will help this year.Thank you all for your time and generosity. Let's try to make it to our goal of 60 sets by November 1. Like last year, I will request a tally once a month just to gauge where we are as a group. I will write everyone for our first tally on June 1. Dust off those hooks and needles and let's get to work ladies!

SHOL Project 2012 - TBA soon!
Hi ladies, I hope you have enjoyed the last few months and feel refreshed. With Easter right around the corner, I will shortly announce Sew Hooked on Love's 2012 project. I am prayerfully narrowing down our choices. I love starting our projects around Easter, it helps me remember why I'm doing what I do. Because Christ loves me and His love compels me to love others, even in seemingly small ways. Our deadline will always be November 1. My desire is to free us up for November so we can tend to our holiday preparations.
This year, there will be a few changes. I will be moving to CT for 1 - 4 years. My husband was given surprise orders and we are rolling with the changes. However, my friend and fellow SHOL member, Elizabeth, has enthusiastically offered to help carry on the part of SHOL's work that needs a local contact. Me and her will share admin duties and she will be the one who will collect and deliver our items.I will crochet and mail my stuff to her. So, SHOL emails may come from me or Elizabeth. She is an awesome friend and sister in Christ. Please copy both of us on any email correspondence.
I want to thank all of you for joining us for another year. We each pay for our own yarn and we spend hours working on things for people we will never meet. Honestly, the fact that you joined this group says a lot about your desire to give. I thank God for each of you and your big giving hearts. Thank you!
Last piece of business, we are always looking for volunteers to join our ranks of hooks and needles. Please pass on the word to friends and family who may be interested in something like this.
Love, Sandra
P.S. - I called the For Kids Homeless Shelter this week and they reported back that they distributed every single one of our 110 donated pieces. Yay! I wish we could have seen the kids enjoying the items but, understandably, the kids at the shelter cannot be photographed. Let's gear up for another year of meaningful giving.
